Another Great Entry

iNation #2: Nick Danforth & His iPods

Nick DanforthThis week on iNation, I met up with Nick Danforth to talk about his iPods. Nick is a 15 year old Apple fanatic, blogger, musician, videographer, and photographer living in the mountains of Colorado. You can check out his photos on Flickr, or his blog.

If you’re unfamiliar with iNation, check out the very first interview.

Marvin: How many iPods do you currently own?
Nick: Currently, I’m the proud owner of two beautiful Pods: “Julia” and “Isabella” (15GB 3rd Gen and 512MB 1st Gen Shuffle). Prior to buying these two iPods, I owned a 30GB Video, but didn’t really need the video capability and it was a little too much hard drive space for me.

So I sold the video, and bought these two. The shuffle is my “go everywhere” player, and I stock it up with new songs multiple times daily, while the 3G is great for road trips, flights, and my iLuv i177 Clock Radio.

Marvin: What accessories do you use with your iPod?
Nick: With “Julia”, I’m using a Speck Silicone case for travel (but it rarely is used unless I’m flying), and an iTrip for general use. The Speck case is not the greatest, offering no screen or control protection, but it came free with the iPod, so what can I say? I think it was worth it ;).

With “Isabella”, I have an Apple Shuffle Sport Case. This thing is GREAT. I use it every time I jog, or take the shuffle out and about. It’s durable, classy, and even water resistant! Apple generally sells them for the steep price of $29.95 USD, but I bought mine on eBay for a grand total of $3.69 shipped. Worth it? Heck yeah.

Also, with both iPods, I have my iLuv i177 clock radio. This thing sings me to sleep, and wakes me up every morning. And it looks pretty sexy too.

Marvin: Name 5 tunes/podcasts on one of your iPods right now.
Nick: Off the top of my head, some of my 5 most played songs are the following:

  • Stop This Train - John Mayer
  • Hotel Roosevelt - Augustana
  • Amie - Damien Rice
  • Fix You - Coldplay
  • I Am For You - Waking Ashland

And for podcasts, the following:

Marvin: iPhone/Apple TV. Got one or planning to get one?
Nick: Following the recent announcement that no feature of the iPhone will function without the purchase of a plan, I know that I am definitely not going to be purchasing one any time soon.

I might have been able to pay the $500, but with a required contract on top of that? No way. I do have use for all the features aside from the phone, but I won’t pay the cost of the device plus the contract.

However, the AppleTV looks very tempting to me, seeing as I may be purchasing an HDTV sometime soon. I also keep all my media on my computer, so sooner or later, I will probably end up picking one up because I’d be able to use it all the the time, and it’s so cheap as well.

Marvin: Nick, thank you so much for chatting with me.

That’s it, another iNation interview is complete.

    • I love this feature, keep it up :)
Nick gives his iPods girl names, I give my hard drives girl names. Yeah it’s pathetic :P

    • Nice interview. I think having two iPods is a great idea; one for music on the run, while the other for something like a plane ride.

    • Cool!

Nick is a cool guy, and I was fortunate enough to be featured in his “Slick Mac Setup of the Week” for this week.

      Great site you have here.
